MT4463, a Large-Signal Network Analyzer
The MT4463 is the first commercial - available
product that characterizes the nonlinear behavior of RF, microwave
and fast switching components in a network analyzer sense
and is based on large-signal network analyzer technology.
The MT4463 goes beyond pass/fail tests. The MT4463 helps to
understand what is going on at the component level and why
tests, usually based on standard specifications, are failing.
The MT4463 measures the complete
voltage and current or incident / reflected wave behavior
under small- (S-parameters) and large-signal conditions. Independent
of the type of component, from transistor to system, a one
tone or periodic modulation can be applied under mismatched
condions while the complete behavior is measured and represented
in different ways.
Version v1.1, released at the end of March 2005, includes
the FastLane
option. This module speeds up the measurements meaningfully
for low noise measurements and for high - quality S-parameters
The MT4463 low-frequency range can be extended with the NM500 LF LSNA

- A Network Analyzer for Complete
Active Component Characterization and Real-Time Harmonic
Load Pull.
M. Vanden Bossche
Microwave Journal, November 2004
A large-signal network analyzer is the
ultimate tool to characterize HF active components. It provides
and expands VNA capability with spectrum analyzer and vector
signal analysis features in a mismatched environment using
tuners. It provides complete component characterization
with one single connection in a mismatched environment from
small-signal to large-signal excitation. Finally, based
on this equipment, load-pull characterization is turned
into a real-time process while providing fundamental and
harmonic performance information.

Background
Many years of research work at Agilent Technologies by the
Agilent NMDG team in cooperation with different research institutes
did lead to the commercial realization of the MT4463. Agilent
Technologies is licensing the technology to Maury Microwave
who are sublicensing it to NMDG.
The MT4463 is produced by Maury Microwave with the help of
NMDG. The latter also provides presales, installation
and postsales support.
